Award-Winning Journalism

A journalist for the better part of two decades, Glenn BurnSilver currently occupies the world of Features Editor at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner in Fairbanks, Alaska. He has recently been awarded several prizes for excellence in journalism.

"Polar Bears on Parade," a story about the growth of the polar bear tourism industry, was named Best Long Feature, 2009, by the Society of Professional Journalists.

Society of Professional Journalists, Pacific Northwest, 2009 Excellence in Journalism Competition, Daily Newspapers, Circulation 25,000 or less: First Place, Best Section for Latitude 65, the News-Miner’s weekend entertainment section.

Latitude 65, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner’s weekend section, was named Best Section, 2009, by the Society of Professional Journalists. This particular cover was also won First Place, Best Section Cover Layout and Design.

“Glass Menagerie,” a profile on Czech glass blower Martin Janecky was awarded third place for Best Long Feature Story, 2010, by the Alaska Press Club.
