One Wheel Up: SanTan Wheelie Jam returns Saturday to Steele Indian School Park

The world record for the longest continuous wheelie (riding on one wheel) is slightly more than eight miles, held by a South Yorkshire, England youth. There is no documented Arizona wheelie record, but maybe one can be created at the second annual SanTan Wheelie Jam Super Picnic, Saturday, April 28 at Steele Indian School Park, 300 East Indian School Road.
Sponsored by TBAG and SanTan Brewery, an 11 a.m. bike parade opens the show, which continues all afternoon with bike polo, custom bike show, a foot down/slow ride, mini/tall bike races, BMX and trials/fixie tricks demos, bike mechanic build-off, roller racing, and live music from a handful of local acts. And of course there’s the featured wheelie contest.

Bring Junior too; the kid’s zone features a bike rodeo and helmet decorating. Oh, don’t miss the Bike Blenders: farmers market smoothies created via pedal-powered blenders. (OK, we can’t confirm the pedal-powered part, but it’d be cool).

The bike n’ beer party runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entry is $5. Visit www.santanwheeliejam.com or call (602) 276-2499.—Glenn BurnSilver
